b2ap3_thumbnail_SMH-article-small.jpgHappy Science's objection against SMH's article on 13 October

On 13 October 2012, The Sydney Morning Herald released an article titled "Happy Science cashes in on new age fears in Sydney".

This article contains a lot of false information and Happy Science has sent a written statement of objection to SMH. Here, we would like to state our view afresh.

So I was saddened the other day to receive an anti Islam flyer in my mailbox and wrote an encouraging email to the local Muslim community voicing solidarity between religious communities. But to really solve the root of this problem we need to understand what causes differences between religions and learn to not only accept but truly value those differences. One of the core missions for Happy Science in the short term is to end the need for conflict between religions, this sounds impossible until you remember the depth of the love that flows from heaven to all the people of our world.

This video starts to explain some of this new perspective but to truly understand this good news I recommend the book that was the top of the Japanese bestselling list in 2010 - "The laws of Salvation". I currently have 10 copies of this book to give away so if you'd like to receive one (and you live in Australia) then Share this post somewhere and email your mailing details to receive a book.

Our modern world is full of people who believe that faith is the opposite of reason and think that it is reasonable to deny the existence of God or the spiritual dimensions. These people are confused; thinking that ours is the first age where people turned away from the divine and ignored the sublime, the fact is that this pattern has been repeated time and again around our world as people's lives improve they forget to respect the true source of their existence. Faith is not the opposite of reason, not at all; rather, it is the manifestation of reason as it expands into higher dimensional space. Thoughts in our brain are the three dimensional shadows of the much larger minds that expand far up into the multidimensional spirit world. Tuning into these greater thoughts and minds is in fact faith. Faith is to act in accord with the will of the gods and of the God of gods despite the fact that you are only currently experiencing a shadow of a thought within your physical brain.

Those who mock faith are often confused by the fact that extremely intelligent people as well as simple people have a belief in the spiritual but this is because strong faith comes from a strong soul and not a large brain. The truth is that we all have such great souls that are in fact connected to the creative source of all that is but we hide this truth from ourselves with tricks of the noisy brain, this is why prayer and meditation are always encouraged by those that know. Of course developing an intelligent and active brain is the foundation to almost any success in this world but that is common knowledge.

In the early days of the Christian church in an effort to consolidate power and perhaps defend against persecution church authorities made some bad decisions and these 3 ideas have since then tainted the entire faith.

  1. All the teachings of God can be contained in one book.
  2. Heaven and hell are eternal states and we do not reincarnate.
  3. Channeling and spiritual communication is evil.

These three ideas form a lie within Christianity that was not present within the teachings of Jesus and have created only conflicts and disharmony. So lets refute each one and then transcend the problem entirely.

So people often tell me that they are already happy and they don't need to think about becoming happier. Well if that's true I want to celebrate their success 100% but I think there may be a problem in the happiness they are content with.

When most people think of happiness they think of

  • things they like having,
  • places they like being
  • or simply people whose company they enjoy

and these things are indeed very nice.
But the happiness that we work to produce at Happy Science is not dependant on circumstances because it is a function of us learning to radiate and give love and happiness to others. So there is no doubt that our lives all have days filled with light and days filled with darkness but if we make our happiness instead dependant on what we can give instead of get then we can take the light with us regardless of the weather.

So many of us have given up on ever knowing anything of God and never make even the most basic efforts to discover for ourselves what others have told us so many times - God loves you.

We think the discovery of the spiritual is at best for other people and at worst some sort of deluded lie but we don't take even 5 seconds each day to say thank you for all that we have in our lives. How could we expect to see if we don't even begin to look.

So let go your disbelief for a minute each day and begin a conversation it might be your guardian or guiding spirits it might be a great high spirit like El Cantare or Jesus but begin to tune in to the highest power that you can and ask what you want to know.

The core criticism of religion levelled by sceptics nowadays is that we do not prove our claims and while I will never prove God to their satisfaction I want to better describe the spiritual perspective in this context. Firstly I love empirical science I was raised on it and I understand it very well but I was also raised in a Christian family and neither could answer my curious questions very well. The problem lies in the fact that spiritual experiences are by definition not material and so beyond the limits of main stream science. It is like observing light you either see a particle or a wave but once you do you cannot see from the other perspective. Having a mind that can see both the face and the vase the mind and the material is not common but it is also not difficult once you know to try.

Frankly an individual needs to prove the existence of the spiritual worlds for themselves and so the focus should be on experience and not evidence.

Once you have a deep spiritual experience no amount of criticism from others will erase that. Of course interpreting that spiritual experience back into your physical brain with all its cultural and environmental conditioning and preconceptions is where the confusion begins and from this point on a more systematic empirical approach would help religion enormously but to me that is where the work of Ryuho Okawa and Happy Science begins. The true burden for religious people isn't to argue with die-hard sceptics but rather to spiritually nurture every single person who wants to explore the beauty of the right mind.

One of the ideas that first attracted me to Happy Science is its intense focus on development, not only for science, finance or art but also for religion. This evolution of religion that keeps pace with the rapid changes in our society is clearly needed and with a strong foundation and thoughtful assessment new ideas and directions can be explored without losing sight of the true goal of multiplying happiness in this world and the next.

We do not need change for the sake of change, we think destructive revolutions are most often just rooted in jealousy. But if a movement holds too tight to set rules, laws or procedures it risks enforcement becoming its goal at the expense of its original mission. I hope that when the time comes to replace or compliment Happy Science with new teachings that I'll be there to lend a hand again.

This fantastic lecture was delivered by the global missionary lecturer Mr Imai at the Melbourne state library.

In a recent post on his blog I noticed mr Imai running a retreat in the Blue Mts, perhaps we can encourage more retreats like this throughout Australia.
